CRESTED BLADES

Preparing a blade core by cresting
A number of flakes are removed from the face of the core to create a ridge running down the length of the core

Then the core is struck on the platform at the point of the ridge (or crest)

A blade is removed as the blow is directed along the crest.

The blade has distinctive flake scars initiated from the centre of the blade outwards

Further blades are removed following the ridges created by removing the crested blade.
